Like layers, warm sweaters, mittens and simmering stews, a warm mug of hot chocolate is a cozy treat in the dark, cold winter months! Unfortunately, many packaged hot chocolate mixes or fancy prepared drinks contain hydrogenated oils, processed dairy, high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors. I developed my yummy warming Cozy Vegan Hot Cacao as part of my popular Simple | Pure | WholeTM All Natural Recharge Experience for a warming, balancing treat during the cold weather that packs in healthy nutrition without those unwanted additives.
This vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free treat is delicious and packed with nutrition! In small quantities, cacao can be a healthy treat for most people. The cacao tree is an evergreen which is native to the tropical regions of South America. Cacao beans are antioxidant-rich superfoods which boost energy, focus and alertness. Many of these antioxidants are flavenoids like anthocyanidin which prevent free radical damage and boost collagen production for healthy skin, hair and nails. Cacao also promotes mood-boosting neurotransmitters like endorphins and serotonin.
You can use my homemade hemp milk as the perfect base of this creamy drink! This simple non-dairy option adds healthy fats and satisfying protein without any added thickeners or emulsifiers.
The maximum nutritional benefits are gleaned from cacao in its raw form. Since it is stimulating, it is best consumed in the morning, and those who are sensitive to caffeine should use caution.

Thanks Jennifer for posting this. I drink a cup of cacao almost every day. I love chocolate and drinking cacao is such a neat way to get it. I bet the vanilla and Ceylon cinnamon in your recipe makes this drink extra flavorful. I liked your recipe so much I pinned it. Wishing you Many Blessings today and in the coming year.
