If you have stocked up on pumpkin for all those delicious fall recipes and have a bit left over, put it to good use. Make this hydrating natural pumpkin face mask for some indulgent, natural self-care that is reminiscent of enjoying a slice of pumpkin pie!
Pumpkin is packed with skin-nourishing nutrients like zinc, vitamins C and A and fruit enzymes. These phytonutrients give pumpkin the ability to brighten, smooth and moisturize skin while taming inflammation and redness. The natural enzymes in pumpkin help to dissolve dry skin cells and assist with healing. To make this hydrating natural face mask, you can use pure canned/boxed organic pumpkin puree or cook and puree your own fresh pumpkin.
The coconut butter is deeply hydrating and also has anti-bacterial properties. It goes beyond moisturizing the skin and actually helps to heal it from the inside out since it contains antioxidants and saturated fats which are absorbed into the skin. You can also use organic coconut oil if you choose. The natural oils are great for healing dry, sensitive skin and leave your face silky and hydrated.
Bentonite clay is derived from volcanic ash. It is thought to draw toxins out of the body to support detoxification. It also provides minerals like silica, potassium and sodium. Be aware that some bentonite clay products contain trace amounts of lead and may not be suitable for ingestion or topical use.
Clove oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. It has traditionally been used to heal acne-prone skin and as a topical antiseptic for skin infections. If you tolerate organic clove essential oil, you can add a drop to the pumpkin face mask mixture for further benefits. This also adds a wonderful fall aroma to the mask, like a baking pumpkin pie!
After combing all the ingredients, apply the pumpkin face mask mixture generously to clean skin, massage gently and enjoy the delicious aroma as it works its magic. After about 10 minutes, rinse with warm water and pat dry.
This homemade face mask is perfect for a little self-care time or a fun home spa party when family visits over the holidays. Put on your favorite music or meditation CD, sit back, relax and take some deep calming breaths.
While this face mask is all natural without toxic or synthetic ingredients, be sure to patch test a small amount on your arm before applying to your face to make sure you are not sensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients. This recipe makes enough for 1 face mask (depending on the thickness of application) and can be multiplied for more applications. It should be made fresh for each application and used immediately, not stored.
Hydrating Pumpkin Face Mask
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp Organic Pumpkin Puree no added ingredients
- 1 Tbsp Organic Coconut Butter/Manna or organic coconut oil, gently warmed and softened
- 1/2 Tbsp bentonite clay
- Optional: 1 drop organic essential clove oil
Instructions
- Gently warm the coconut butter or oil to soften.
- Mix ingredients to combine well.
- Apply to clean skin and massage gently in circular strokes.
- Rinse off with warm water after 10-15 minutes.
Notes
This makes enough for application to one face and should be used immediately and not stored.
