#Health benefits of near infrared sauna therapy: a powerful and unique way to influence mitochondria for antiaging, #wellness and longevity! #sauna #infared #healthy #light #nearinfrared www.jenniferweinbergmd.comOne of my favorite wellness trends is the rising use of infrared saunas! Infrared saunas are growing in popularity. Based on their function combining the heat therapy of traditional saunas with low-level light therapy and resulting benefits, I use and recommend near infrared saunas.

The science behind the healing benefits of near infrared saunas is strong. Near infrared sauna light has been shown to deeply penetrate tissues up to a depth of 9 inches (23 cm) (Whelan et al., 2003), activating tiny photoreceptors in our cells called chromophores (Hamblin & Demidova, 2006) which are selectively receptive to and absorb these near infrared rays. In fact, the mitochondrias’ photo-receptors (cytochrome oxidase) are only stimulated by 600-950nm light (visible red is 600-700nm, near infrared is 700-1100nm). Once activated by NIR light, chromophores influence a variety of metabolic pathways that influence healing, inflammation, detoxification and rejuvenation. This directed, deep light also provides sufficient heat for effective hyperthermic therapy

It is not surprising that infrared saunas are quickly becoming the trendiest way to detox and reap other health benefits, since they simply feel great to experience and are a powerful way to de-stress.

    I used to have a sauna but it was a wood one. I used it for quite a while but evidently had to sell it due to numerous reasons. The one you wrote about sounds like it would be so much more convenient and portable. I know they have improved much about them and they sure are great for detoxing among many other health issues.
