Thanksgiving is a time of gatherings with loved ones when you may reflect on all that you have–the people, places, events and opportunities for which you are thankful.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to become more aware and reconnect with the power of gratitude! It can also be an opportunity to bring appreciation to the front of your mind and establish a consistent gratitude practice that continues on throughout the year. Recalling your proven successes and positive experiences is a great way to boost confidence and positivity as you face new challenges and conquer fresh experiences.

Science backs up what your experience with gratitude may have shown you. Those who consciously focus on gratitude experience greater emotional wellbeing and health than those who do not.
I see the immense health benefits and power of embracing a grateful attitude every day with myself, my patients and my clients. Gratitude enhances the value you extract from your life experiences. Studies show that regularly focusing on gratitude enhances alertness, enthusiasm, determination, attentiveness and energy. These qualities strengthen your capacity for achieving the things you truly want in life. It also puts you in a positive frame of mind for dealing gracefully with family and loved ones!
During this season of Thanksgiving and all year long, it is nice to remember those things for which we are grateful instead of allowing yourself to get caught up in the negative or what is lacking.
Incorporate a gratitude ritual into your holiday gatherings to help you slow down and appreciate each moment. You will become more in touch with the experience of nourishing your body, connect more meaningfully with those you care about and be able to more accurately associate how different foods make you feel. Your body provides so much wisdom when you slow down to listen!

This Thanksgiving, you can develop a practice that builds upon the foundation of gratitude inspired by the holiday. Practicing a ritual of appreciation helps you to experience the beauty of each moment.
As you gather at the Thanksgiving table this year, start a new and lasting gratitude ritual.
Take 4 deep breaths as you sit down at the table. Allow the air to fill and expand your lungs as your belly rises and tension melts away.
Connect with the company at your table. Think about what each person means to you and how they enhance your life.
Look at your food and notice the colors, textures, aromas and energy. Visualize each ingredient in it’s natural environment and appreciate the life, energy, time and effort that went into getting this food to your plate.
Express gratitude for this food, people and time together in whatever way is most meaningful for you. Perhaps you enjoy saying a traditional grace or prayer, silently reflecting on the meaning of the moment or sharing with your guests that which you appreciate.
As you enjoy your meal, remember to pause and chew each bite well so that you can savor the experience of eating and digest the nutrition in your food.
I invite you to embrace a mindset of appreciation today with this simple gratitude ritual. Use it to take a few minutes to remember all the gifts in your life that bring you joy each day and to approach holiday meals as nourishing instead of overwhelming. Take this energy of gratitude with you into the rest of your life to cultivate appreciation all year long!
