Healthy Green Halloween: Your Simple Pure Whole Guide to a Safe, Enjoyable Holiday!
Healthy Green Halloween: Your Simple | Pure | WholeTM Guide to a Safe, Enjoyable Holiday!
With Halloween quickly approaching, I wanted to share some tips for keeping your family healthy and safe while enjoying the holiday.
Don’t get tricked by all the treats!!
Try some no-trick treats this season to avoid candy, sugar and GMO overload.
- Avoid conventional candy which is non-organic, non-Fair Trade and contains GMO ingredients, artificial colors, high fructose corn syrup and processed ingredients.
- Instead, opt for non-food treats like stickers, toys, non-toxic soy crayon rocks and keepsakes
- Try organic whole food options like VeggieGos, Square Bars, Larabar Minis, seed and fruit packs or Pure Organic Fruit and Veggie Strips.
- If you choose candy, look for organic options with no artificial dyes or high fructose corn syrup like Yummy Earth Organic Lollipops. Equal Exchange Mini Chocolate Bars, Endangered Species Chocolate Bug Bites or Annie’s Organic Bunny Fruit Snacks.
Balance Halloween night by having a healthy meal before sending the kids out trick-or-treating.
- When you feed your children a healthy, balanced meal ahead of time, they will be less tempted to eat candy along the way and go crazy devouring sugar treats afterwards.Try this Quinoa Stuffed Pumpkin with a side of Braised Kale with Apples and Carrots for a festive yet balanced meal. My Fall Action Plan Festive Cookbook offers several allergy-friendly, balanced, healthy recipe ideas that are easy to prepare and everyone will enjoy!
- Put together a simple healthy candy corn crudite platter! Arrange white cauliflower, orange carrot and yellow sweet bell peppers on a platter to mimic the colors of those sugary sweets in a much healthier way. Pair these fresh veggies with your favorite dip or this organge-spiced pumpkin hummus from Lunchbox Bunch!
- Another spooky option for Halloween dinner are spider web pizzas! For quick prep, use gluten-free tortillas or pizza dough and top with thin pieces of cheese or veggies to create a web shape. Use a black olive to make a spooky spider!
- These falafel spiders from Veggie Belly are another cute and healthy Halloween meal option!
Keep Your Halloween Green
Many common Halloween products contain toxic chemicals. Use these tips to green your Halloween and keep your family safe!
- Avoid toxic face paints which can contain lead, nickel, cobalt and other toxic metals. These can lead to impaired brain function and development as well as skin sensitization and dermatitis.
- Do not use plastic or synthetic facemasks. These masks and false teeth are made from toxic materials and often contain endocrine disrupting chemicals.
- Decorate naturally which eco-friendly materials. Choose pumpkins, gourds, corn, hale bales and natural materials to create a festive seasonal scene. Try this beautiful and naturally decorated bean pumpkin!

Really great suggestions! I do the Switch Witch for my little ones, no commercial candy for us. I love to make a special homemade treat instead and swap out the junk candy for a few organic and fair trade goodies. Thanks for sharing this with us over at Savoring Saturdays linky party.

I love the quinoa stuffed pumpkin idea for Halloween dinner! So fun and festive. Growing up, my mom would always make us a big healthy, cozy fall dinner before trick-or-treating, which definitely helped cut down on the candy we ate throughout the night.
