All healing traditions recognize the crucial role of the heart in sustaining life and energizing the body. We cannot survive long without a well-functioning cardiovascular system and we cannot thrive long without adequate self-love and love from others in our lives as well.
As I explain in The Whole Cure,(affiliate link) instead of reacting to less than ideal circumstances, negative comments or destructive insults from others with personal offense, you can cultivate an awareness that these situations are not personal reflections of your inner worth. This perspective allows you to shift your fear-based reactions into ones based in love.
Since this is such a powerful and important topic, here are a few of my favorite articles, meditations, exercises and yoga routines to boost the love in your life!
One way to get in touch with and open your heart is through stretching and yoga. Lengthening your spine and opening your heart with yoga poses like Wheel Pose (urdhva dhanurasana), Bridge Pose (setu bandha sarvangasana) and Reverse Warrior (viparita virabhadrasana) helps you get in touch with your heart and connect to its wisdom.
You can get the details of my favorite yoga practice for opening the heart and getting in touch with your loving presence with my article on Elephant Journal!

From an Ayurvedic viewpoint, the heart is a crucial energy center in the body where many physical and energetic pathways intersect and interact.
This confluence of influences makes the heart impacted by and capable of affecting many other aspects of the body and health. The heart is an important seat of subtle energies, immunity and vitality. It is also deeply connected with the energetic body and the chakras.

Thank you! I love pilates too. I think with yoga it is important to find a style/teacher that works for you and that you enjoy!
